“ Welcome to Alice Springs ”. A group photo taken at the northern end of Alice Springs during the 2001 Perth-Clare ride and as we were travelling through the centre of Australia. 7 of the 9 founding members of Nullaboys in 1998. This photo was taken at the famous “ Water Tanks” just west of Port Augusta on our way to the National Rally in Surfers Paradise, Queensland. From left to right are Luigi, Wizard, Snoopy, Chopper, Agony, No Name & Radar. Missing are Johno and Ros, they're taking the photo's. Safely home again, arriving back into Perth after the 1999 ride to Canberra. From left - right, Radar, Spud, Agony, Snake, Wizard, Luigi, Snoopy, Ros & Doc. The 4 Swamp Buddy's. Taken at West Beach Caravan Park, Adelaide 1999. We were so named because of the living conditions in which we lived for 3 days. The inside of our cabin smelt of methane gas and resembled a rubbish tip, with empty pizza boxes and beer cans everywhere. We didn't care, we were happy, and that's all that mattered. Swamp Buddies, for life. Newman, WA. Springer, Me [ Wizard ] and Stefan standing beneath a small dump truck at Newman, in the north-west of WA. Notice the little “ Winnie the Pooh ” bear on the right-hand driving light of the Granny-Glide. The little bastard now haunts my dreams, and it's all thanks to my great mate Radar. L-R … Agony, Chopper, Radar, Johno, Luigi, No Name, Ros, Wizard, & Snoopy, the original founding members of the Nullaboys on the inaugural trip in 1998. Sitting around the BBQ table at Adelaide's West Beach Caravan Park and they're probably all telling lies again.
Some of the Nulla's doing a bit of touristy shit somewhere in the Adelaide Hills in 2000. This was shot somewhere near Hahndoff and no doubt before lunch, as most of them still seem to be walking quite well. Radar, Snoopy, No Name, Agony, Stefan, Ros, Doc & Claudia, at a photo spot in the Adelaide Hills, and it's still pre-lunch. This lot like to sample wine, a lot, so any photos must be taken before sampling begins. After lunch, any photos taken will appeared blurred, both before and after looking through the camera lens. Hahndoff, and oh-ohh, it looks like lunch is over. All persons are asked to pull over to the side of the road when you see this lot approaching, and that's from any direction. Wine tasting has been completed, and now it's the mad rush home before it kicks in. Radar sampling a "Traditional Nullaboy OTR [on-the-road] Breakfast”. This consists of Bacon, Eggs, Sausages, Tomatoes, Toast & Coffee but only after you have completed at least 140-200kms of early morning travel. Trying to eat this first, then ride, is not recommended. Wiz, having an afternoon siesta before he fires up for the night. He's probably been at “The Gothic" in Adelaide all afternoon, and his eyes are very tired from all the watching he's had to do. It's only a once a year place so he's got to make the most of the time available to him. The original Nullaboys, at the Great Australian Bight, on their way over to the 1998 National HOG Rally. These are the eight founding 'boys', and the one girl is behind the camera taking the photo.
The magnificent Great Australian Bight. You can't appreciate the ruggedness of our coastline until you see it for yourself. You can stand on the top, and throw a rock as hard as you can out to sea, but you won't see it hit the water. It'd have to be over 200mtrs down to the water. “It's gonna rain soon, so get your wets out”. We were coming home from the 1999 National HOG Rally in Canberra, when it starting to turn very dark on the horizon in front of us. The decision, put on the wet weather gear, because I think we're gonna need it real soon. And we did !! Up in front is literally “A Wall of Water” crossing the road, so we decide to stop and let it past before we went any further. This is viewing the Nullarbor at its best, cool days, green sides, and not a bloody car or truck in sight for miles. Just for something different in 2001, we went over the top to Darwin before heading down the centre to Adelaide and the SA State Rally in Clare. And just to prove that we did, there's the Nullaboys sticker on the NT - WA border sign just east on Kununurra. Ceduna Bakery - This is another one of the many low fat - low cholesterol bakeries that we have located on our travels. You have to eat healthy when you're travelling with the Nullaboys, and we love our bakeries, especially this one. And notice the dirty bikes, just a little bit of road works on the Nullarbor, 2 patches about 40kms in total, and all just SLOPPY MUD too. Doc, Johno, Agony & Luigi, looking tough, out the front of the National War Memorial in Canberra .… Psst, hey, let me tell you a little secret, I reckon if you threw a fire-cracker behind them, they would absolutely shit themselves when it went off…but don't tell 'em I said that, will ya ………
Just a bit of creative re-arranging of a sign whilst we were walking down the street in Adelaide one day. It was a case of moving the letters around until we got what we wanted. The lady sitting at the reception desk did a lot of watching, but never came out to see what we were doing. Litchfield National Park, a bit south of Darwin. Absolutely magnificent place, and well worth the 4000km ride from Perth to sample it's delights. It was HOT that day, and as you can see, Johno was dressed for the occasion. It took hours to get him back on the bike for the final leg into Darwin that day. Some of you may remember the famous words from the lunar landing back in the late 60's …Houston, the Eagle has landed. Well, I suppose that's what Luigi probably said too, but with a few more expletives added to it, after the eagle crashed into and absolutely destroyed the windscreen on his ute just north of Coober Pedy. R-L we have Stefan, Neville & Annette, gorging themselves on the free food at the 2003 H-D Birthday Bash held at Homebush NSW 2003. Stefan was holding back this time, allowing other to eat before he cleared the stalls out. Our magnificent President, Wizard, obviously asking for, and receiving, divine intervention on the weather again, as it was near perfect riding weather for the entire 4 weeks we were away in March 2003. He should be blessed for his efforts. The hardy travellers of the Nullaboys, in March 2003, on their way to Sydney to attend the 100th Birthday Celebrations of Harley Davidson. L-R Squatting … Stefan, Springer, Radar & Snoopy on the far right. L-R Standing …Pop, Geo, Jooles, Wizard, Grubby, Luigi, Johno, Yo-Yo, Annette & Aud
At the Hume Weir, near Albury NSW. The problem was nobody was too sure on who was going first, everybody was waiting for everybody else. Eventually, Johno moved out, and they all followed. Hmmm, a group of Harley's, but I've got no idea who they are, or where they were going to. I think this is just one of those photo's that appears in your collection to confuse you. 20 minutes after we left Khancoban NSW and started to head up into the mountains towards Jindabyne, it begin to rain, so we had to stop to put on the wets. And for our troubles, Aud got a flat tyre to go with the rain. It happens some days, doesn't it ?? Congratulations all around in this photo. Just after we came out of the 8km logging track back onto the bitumen. Roughest track I'd even been on, and it was gonna cost our mate Johno heaps for this error in judgement. I'm not sure here, but I think Johno's trying to explain the error to Luigi [ on the left ] and Snoopy [ on the right ]. It's either that or their about to choke the living shit out of him. And now Springer want's a piece of the action too. I don't think Johno will EVER take us on a gravel track again.
All saddled up and ready to leave Jindabyne, after waiting for Geo & Aud to repair the flat tyre they suffered coming over the mountain from Khancoban. Stefan and Yo-Yo just clowning around, as usual. Wizard & Julianne, probably hatching some sort of plan to get even with someone for something they had done wrong. Maybe it had something to with Radar little buddy, Pooh Bear… Speaking of Radar and his little buddy Pooh Bear [ located on the windscreen of his bike ] Pooh has travelled all over the country with Radar, and it had been suggested that this maybe Pooh's last trip. He may end up "sleeping with the fishes " if Radar's not careful with him. Getting ready to leave the hotel at Walwa, NSW. This was where Johno paid up for taking us down the logging track, and he paid dearly too. We were thirsty, and had a lot of dust in our throats, so it cost him a heap. Another road-side stop and bit of a stretch as we were heading up the coast towards Sydney on the way to the Harley Davidson birthday celebrations. I think this was at Bateman's Bay, but I wouldn't swear to it.
Same place, same day, same reason, just for a stretch and a look around. Stefan and his famous home-made 205 litre drum trailer at the western end of the 90 mile straight on the Nullarbor. Regina, Stefan's partner astride the Granny at the viewing area above Madura Pass, WA. This is the last of the tableland as this is where you drop down onto the coastal plain for about the next 250kms of the ride. Whether you're up on the tablelands or down the coastal plain, the view is still good. Our leader Wizard, taking a piss over the edge of the Great Australian Bight. He doesn't believe in pissing on Australia, or taking the piss out of Australia either by the look of it. The crew checking out the view from the Great Australia Bight. A truly magnificent sight, no matter what the weather. Standing on the top of Madura Pass, and not for too long judging by the treating clouds in the background.
A closer view of the crew, still with those bloody clouds in the background. We never got wet though. Our accommodation in Kalgoorlie-Boulder WA on the way home from the Open Road Tour in Sydney 2003 All home, safe and sound at the Ranges Tavern. This is our last stop as a group and we use this place to say good-bye to all the crew on the trip. From here we go our separate ways to our own homes. We've just got to have one more drink before we say good-bye. The Ranges Tavern in Midvale, Perth 2003. Gee-Jay, on his return journey home to Adelaide, noticed that the "R" was missing from the sign. And when you lose your "R's", it ends up making a statement of a different kind doesn't it …… The 90 Mile Straight, and they're not kidding either. No need for indicators on this piece on road.
Border Village. The accommodation's not flash, but when you're tired, it's bloody magnificent. The "Bus Stop" at Nullarbor Roadhouse, but I've never seen a bloody bus stop there. Radar in front of the stage at the 2003 open road tour. Notice the can of diet coke, when these finally kick in he will disappear. View of the NSW coast between Wollongong and Sydney wish I had the money to be able to buy this land. Snoopy and pooh at the eureka stockade, that little bear had the best trip of the lot of us. Free travel and good company. Snoopy, Grubby, Springer and Geo at the ORT in Sydney. [nullas one and all] Would you trust your daughter with any of these guys.
In front Jonno, behind him Luigi and the baker boy and Springer on their way from Penrith to Homebush for the concert. Wots this, where are the bikes, wot sort of hardened biker travels by train. [Those that want to keep their bikes and licence’s] Pop feeling a tad tired and this is on the way to the concert or was he charging the batteries before partying all night. Pop and pooh, that bear will hang around with anyone. Has he no pride? Pop and Springer ready to party all night long, and they could. Jooles and Wizard. This fine young lady threw open her house at Penrith for 10 motley Nullaboys. A very welcome and hospitable stay was had by one and all. That bear turns up everywhere. Jonno and that bear at the hume weir, this was just before Jonno our road captain took us on that wonderful scenic route to Walwa [down a gravel logging track] and bought everyone free drinks when we got there.
Radar, pooh, Wiz, Snoopy, Luigi and Grubby at the lookout at the eureka stockade site just out of Ballarat. Radar, Luigi and Wiz nulla’s at the concert. Luigi looks a tad concerned; perhaps he is worried that Radar and Wiz might put the squeeze on him ....or does he feel like a rose between 2 eco vandals.
